US President Barack Obama says finding a solution to the euro zone crisis will dominate talks at the G20 in France.

Obama was speaking to reporters next to German leader Angela Merkel who he praised for her leadership.

US PRESIDENT BARACK OBAMA:

"Central to our discussion in the G20 is how do we achieve greater global growth and put people back to work, that means we're going to have to resolve the situation here in Europe, and without Angela's leadership we would not have already made the progress that we've seen at the EU meeting on October 27th. We are now - having seen some progress - looking forward to working together to figure out how we can implement this is an effective way to make sure not only is the euro zone stable, but the world financial system is stable as well."

The G20 summit in Cannes had been meant to focus on reforms of the global monetary system and steps to reign in speculative capital flows, but a shock decision by Greek Prime Minister George Papandreou on Monday to call a referendum on a new EU/IMF aid package for his country has upended the talks.
